STARTER @fishfaced DIDN’T ACTUALLY WANT.

Who thought that taking a bunch of foster kids to the lake was a great
idea? It wasn’t like they liked each other. There were bullies, and mean
girls and the ones that liked to keep to themselves. Unlike them,
Charlotte was loud. She stuck up for herself, and for others, which
resulted in the bullies chucking her into the lake, even though she
couldn’t swim.

humans were so silly sometimes.  didn’t they know that they didn’t have FINS?  they should practice before getting into deep water.  her tiny fingers wound around the girl’s wrist, and after a few fruitless tugs, she sucked in a mouthful of water.  she held it for a moment longer, then blew it downward with all the force she could manage ( and plenty of magic ) until it formed a current behind them that drove them back to the lake shore.

ponyo sat patiently while waiting for the stranger to catch her breath, legs crossed and eyes wide.  her fluffy dress and wild hair were already dry, as though the sun had done an hour’s work on her in an instant.

image

“you have to practice!” she scolded, little round face as stern as she could muster.

Perhaps it was not as gentle as she would have liked, but from the little girl she accepted such. She could FEEL that atleast young Ponyo was TRYING. Her hair often was a piece of herself that was admired and touched by the children, some questioning whether the SUN had set root in her curls. A soft laughed escaped her as she felt Ponyo’s actions, glancing sideways once to peek at teh child from the corner of her eye. When she would be older, Luna would teach her many things. Including how to braid. For now, she  took pleasure in the small moments.

“ I feel like you’re having the time of your life with my curls. “

image

“the time of my life!” ponyo cheered.  she abandoned her poor efforts at braiding quickly enough, choosing instead to spend her energy wrapping her little arms tight around luna’s neck and burying her face in the woman’s hair.  she remained this way for a moment, content in the warm, soft curtain of luna’s curls.  many things had scared her since she had arrived in this place ( although she had tried not to let it show ) but she felt entirely safe in luna’s arms.  she just KNEW that nothing bad could happen while she was hugging luna.

@fishfaced liked the psc!

What in the… The young Queen observed the moving animal in the water. She certainly hadn’t expected discovering a strange, red fish (she thinks it’s a fish, albeit a species she’s never seen before) when she’d made her way down to the beach of the Valley of Wind. What was it doing, swimming so close to land?

image

she’s been spotted!  for a moment she considers swimming away, but when she realizes the creature standing on the shore is human, rather than insect, ponyo slowly floats upward, round face poking out of the water.  the insects – or are they crustaceans? – haven’t tried to hurt her; they are just so very BIG!

uglydaughter:

San is busy among the roots buried within the edge of the forest.  her mother has asked her to measure the damage done by Irontown seawards;  and so she does,  the marshy soil welcoming each of her steps.  the foliage is rich here, the leaves almost entirely blocking the sun’s inference.  it’s a sleepy stretch that only hears the breeze.  San is thankful for the humans lack of mobility;  such a thing should be preservered until the Forest God’s word.  however,  she is abruptly interrupted with the distant rustle of leaves;  it’s quick,  like the flutter of a hummingbird’s wings,  and unlike any fauna which naturally house themselves here.  suddenly,  a flash of red bursts forward from behind a blackberry bush  -  San yelps, dagger yanked from its harness in involuntary defense.

image

behind the tip of her weapon is a… child?  San blinks, wide-eyed in her surprise.  she is not human,  that’s for sure. her mouth stretches across her face in a guppyish way and her skin glistens the same as a salmon’s scales;  she leaves a trail of giggles as she runs in circles,  blind to anything except the feeling of her legs moving full-speed,  blurred in their motion and spinning like an excited waterwheel.  San feels a small smile crack upon her visure; thank goodness she weren’t blind like Nago, the poor thing might’ve been hurt.

her knees crack as she squats among the leaves, lowering herself to the child’s level.  the tip of her dagger goes back into its leathered scabbard.

❛ I haven’t seen you around this forest before. what’s your name, sweet one? ❜

image

it doesn’t occur to her to be frightened of the dagger aimed in her direction, and the fish bounds eagerly toward the wild stranger before clumsily skidding to a stop, bare feet sliding through the leaves on the forest floor.  when she finds herself face to face with the girl – woman? with humans it is hard to tell – her wide grin only spreads further.  her oddly dexterous toes wiggle, grabbing at the flora that springs up between them.

sweet one.  she likes the name, but she likes the name sosuke gave her even better.  “ i’m ponyo! “

HE CAN’T HELP BUT SMILE. it’s frustrating, a little bit, but he remembers his own hesitation to learn trigedasleng, and at least ponyo has the excuse of being five. besides, confusing ‘ai laik’ with ‘i like’ is much cuter than ‘i don’t speak grounder’. “hey—! you’re messing up my braids,” murphy tells her, grabbing her by the sides and tickling her with his fingertips as he scoops her back into his lap.

also, i like john is much more important for him to hear. he keeps that to himself.

image

“ these are MY braids.  you gave them to me, “ ponyo informs him, huffing softly as though the very implication that something on her head could belong to someone else is enough to stress her out.  in an effort to educate her ill-informed friend, she grasps a lock of his hair and twists it into an ugly knot – a braid just for him!

“ now you have one! “

“ —— you can FLY? “ the little fish is shocked!  she has never seen a human fly!

her father has always told her to stay deep in the ocean, has always told her to avoid humans.  now, bobbing just beneath the surface of the water, she peers up at the silhouette.  without even a moment’s thought, she dips deeper into the water, then launches herself upward, breaking the surface of the water in one mighty LEAP!

the girl’s chubby little legs dance forward at top speed until her outstretched fingers find the thick fabric of erwin’s pant leg.  she BLINKS, then tugs several times, quietly demanding the stranger’s attention.
