with an unwavering smile set upon his features , the wizard would stare down at the child’s stubby little form and let out a soft chuckle once he saw her raise her arms up. whether she was in any way INTIMIDATED by him or not —– it certainly didn’t show. and despite him preferring to live his life without attracting the attention of others , howl had to admit her innocence and bold demeanor brought a sense of WARMNESS to him that he did not realize he had been missing.
therefore , much for his own amusement than anything else —- the notorious heart-eater would stoop down and pick the toddler up from under her arms. his posture was slightly AWKWARD , but not because he was unfamiliar with handling children. it was more so due to the fact that he wanted to keep her within arms length , extending his elbows out so that he could get a good look at her.
“ it’s very nice to meet you. but i’m afraid i’m someone your parents probably wouldn’t want you to be around. ” he stated that plainly and with a smile still on his face , unable to help it. it was the truth , after all , and if she had not been taught to stay away from strangers , then his lesson should be a good start for her —– especially , since howl suddenly found himself worrying for her well-being more than intended. “ and might i ask where your mother is , ponyo ? ”
the beautiful stranger lifts her ! she laughs brightly as she finds herself face to face with him, and if his warning deters her in the slightest, she does not let it show. in fact, she does not so much as acknowledge it, skipping directly to his next question instead.
“she lives in the OCEAN!” the little goldfish declares proudly, pointing blindly toward what she assumes might be the ocean. “she’s b e a u t i f u l ! “
ponyo has wondered at times if she will look like her mother when she is grown, but that has always seemed like an eternity away. she hopes so; she doesn’t want to look like her father. he isn’t what she wants to be like at all. she doesn’t understand how he can hate humans so much; ponyo thinks they’re amazing!

interaction. i am a slow writer, so i mostly only write with mutuals so i can try to keep up, but i'm not against writing smaller things with non-mutuals to see if we click. i like to use small + sub text and a little bit of formatting, but i don't expect anyone else to write in a certain way. i make typos and i take a while to get through my drafts, so please don't feel pressure to rush or stress over mistakes.
faceclaim. normally i don't have a section for this, but this is a special situation. for now, my live action fc is going to be maggie elizabeth jones, who is a white fc. there are very limited resources for child actors, and i wouldn't know how to find a japanese child with red hair, and unfortunately my editing skills are not strong enough to fake it. additionally, the inspiration for the film ponyo was disney's the little mermaid, meaning ponyo herself is loosely based on ariel; she was born under the ocean and does not necessarily have a traditional land-based ethnicity. that being said, i would still prefer to use a japanese fc, if possible, so if anyone has any fc suggestions i may have missed, you are welcome to come to me privately and politely, but any rude comments i receive about this will be deleted.
shipping.ponyo loves sosuke! i do not expect to have any ships on this blog, aside from the canon ponyo/sosuke, and even that is love between two very young children, and does not necessarily have all the elements of romance.
triggers. i don't expect to have triggering content on this blog. ponyo is the equivalent of a five year old girl, and i will not be aging ponyo up at any time, so this blog will be entirely sfw. if there is something you do need tagged, however, just let me know.

name: brunhilde ponyo age: ponyo is the equivalent of a five year old human girl, but she is the daughter of a sea goddess and a sorceror who was once human, so it is possible her age in years is different than her level of growth/maturity. species: ponyo is a magical goldfish until she gives up her powers to live as a human with sosuke. her mother is a goddess, however, so ponyo can also be considered a demigod until she chooses to live as a human. birthday: (headcanon) ponyo has her own birthday, but after becoming human, she insists on sharing sosuke's birthday - april 1st - so that they can grow up together at the same time powers: although the extent of her powers are not known, ponyo is very powerful for her age. she is able to resist magic to an extent, is able to run on water, and it cannot make her wet. she also seems to have a certain level of control over water, although this power seems intuitive more so than practiced. after consuming human blood, she is able to change her form and become human in appearance. it can also be assumed that she, like her sisters, can change her form to become other, larger species of fish after opening her father's well. ponyo loses all of these powers after choosing to remain with sosuke.
verses: she opened a magic well ( tag ) canon. this verse takes place before ponyo gives up her magic. most interactions are likely to take place in this verse. at this time, she is a magical goldfish and is likely to change forms between a fish and a little girl depending on the situation.
growing up just like you ( tag ) post canon. this verse takes place following the movie, after ponyo has given up her magic for the opportunity to become a little girl and grow up with sosuke. she has memories of being a fish, but in this verse, ponyo is the equivalent of a regular five year old girl.
